Alan Parks (born 1963) is a Scottish crime writer primarily associated with the Tartan Noir genre. His background is diverse, having worked in the music industry for over two decades, culminating in a role as creative director at Warner Music UK, and previously studying moral philosophy at the University of Glasgow. Parks' writing style is characterized by dark, atmospheric narratives and complex, often morally ambiguous, characters. His novels frequently explore themes of violence, regret, and the darker aspects of human nature within the context of working-class lives.
Parks gained recognition with his debut novel, Bloody January, which was shortlisted for the Grand Prix de Littérature Policière. He continues to produce critically acclaimed crime fiction, most recently winning the 2022 McIlvanney Prize for May God Forgive.
