Born in a village in Northamptonshire, she holds a Bachelor's degree in History and a Ph.D. from Oxford University. Before her career as a novelist, Ironside worked as a teacher. Her writing style is characterized by intricate plots and detailed character development, often featuring elements of suspense and intrigue. Ironside's early success was marked by the 1985 John Creasey Award for her debut novel, A Very Private Enterprise.
