He spent his formative years in Mississippi, and later in Germany due to his father’s role as a doctor with the US Embassy Clinic. Iles began his career in music, playing in a rock band called Frank Scarlett before pursuing his passion for writing. His style is characterized by complex plots, morally ambiguous characters, and a deep exploration of the dark undercurrents within Southern communities. He penned eighteen novels and one novella, showcasing a consistent ability to build suspense and engage the reader in gritty, atmospheric narratives.
