H.R.F. Keating (born Halloween, 1926) was a highly prolific English crime fiction author, most notably recognized for his Inspector Ghote series set in Bombay during the 1930s. Keating began his writing career as a screenwriter and reviewer, eventually publishing over 30 novels and numerous short story collections. His writing style was characterized by witty dialogue, intricate plots, and a keen understanding of the cultural nuances of British India. He was a member of the Detection Club and authored the influential guide, 'Sherlock Holmes, Whodunit?: A Guide To Crime, Suspense and Spy Fiction'. He died in 2011 after a long life dedicated to crafting compelling mysteries.
