James D. Doss (1939-2012) was an American mystery novelist best known for creating the fictional Native American detective Charlie Moon. Doss’s writing career began in 1994 following a prior role at the Los Alamos Laboratory, where he worked as a scientist. His novels are characterized by a blend of mystery and Western elements, often set in the rugged landscapes of Utah and featuring a culturally sensitive portrayal of Ute tribal traditions and folklore.
