James Alfred Wight OBE FRCVS, better known as James Herriot, was a British veterinary surgeon and author born in Sunderland in 1916. He spent nearly 50 years practicing veterinary medicine in Yorkshire, developing a deep love for animals and the rural landscapes of North Yorkshire.
