Joe Ide is an American crime fiction writer of Japanese descent, born around 1958. He grew up in South Central Los Angeles, a poverty-stricken area he frequently uses as the setting for his acclaimed crime novels. Ide's writing style is characterized by a focus on a young, highly intelligent protagonist named Isaiah Quintabe, who solves crimes using deductive reasoning reminiscent of Sherlock Holmes. He developed this concept after being fascinated by the works of Conan Doyle. Ide holds a graduate degree in education and his work often explores themes of justice, poverty, and community within a challenging urban environment.
