Kotarō Isaka, born in Matsudo City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan in 1971, is a highly successful Japanese mystery author. Initially studying law at Tohoku University, he gained recognition early in his career, becoming the only author in Japan to be nominated for the Hon'ya Taishō award in each of the award's first four years. Isaka's writing style is characterized by its dark humor, gritty realism, and intricate plots, often featuring unconventional and morally ambiguous protagonists. He has achieved international acclaim, with his novels selling millions of copies worldwide and being translated into numerous languages.
