Lilian Jackson Braun was an American mystery writer best known for her popular "Cat Who" series. Beginning in 1966, Braun created a series of three mystery novels featuring Jim Qwilleran, a retired advertising executive who adopted a group of stray cats in the North Carolina coastal town of Hampstead. Braun’s writing style is characterized by its cozy atmosphere, witty dialogue, and focus on small-town life. Her books are known for their gentle humor and engaging characters, particularly the intelligent and observant cats who assist Qwilleran in solving crimes. Braun continued to write extensively throughout her career, eventually expanding the series to include numerous short story collections and a new series featuring a detective cat named Midnight Louie.
