Martha Wells is an American speculative fiction author born in Texas in 1964. She began publishing in 1993 with her debut novel, "The Element of Fire," marking the start of the Ile-Rien series. Wells’s writing style is known for its strong first-person narration, often delivered by cynical, sarcastic, and surprisingly empathetic artificial intelligences – most notably the "Murderbot" series. She has published extensively across various genres, including science fiction, fantasy, young adult, and nonfiction, with a significant focus on creating diverse and complex characters.
