Stephen Chbosky, born January 25, 1970, is an American author, film director, and screenwriter. He was raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, within a family involved in finance and tax preparation. Chbosky’s writing style is characterized by introspective, first-person narration and explores themes of adolescence, identity, and mental health. He studied at the University of Southern California’s Filmic Writing Program before achieving widespread success with his debut novel, The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
