Sue Grafton (April 24, 1940 – December 28, 2017) was an American author best known for her "alphabet series" featuring private investigator Kinsey Millhone in the fictional city of Santa Teresa, California. Grafton's writing style was influenced by Ross Macdonald and she created a series of interconnected detective novels, each beginning with a letter of the alphabet. She was the daughter of famed detective novelist C.W. Grafton. Her novels are characterized by their meticulous plotting, strong female protagonist, and atmospheric settings.
