Timothy Hallinan (born 1949) is an American thriller writer known for his complex, often melancholic narratives and his creation of erudite, flawed private investigators. He spent considerable time based in Southern California and Southeast Asia, drawing inspiration from his experiences and travels. Hallinan's writing style is characterized by its intellectual depth, sharp dialogue, and atmospheric settings, frequently exploring themes of loss, regret, and the darker aspects of human nature. He is best known for his long-running Simeon Grist detective series, which he began in the 1990s.
