Dudley Bernard Egerton Pope (1925-1997) was a prolific British author primarily recognized for his extensive historical fiction, particularly his "Lord Ramage" series, which vividly portrays naval life during the 18th and 19th centuries. Pope’s writing style is characterized by detailed descriptions of naval battles and shipboard life, combined with strong character development and a focus on historical accuracy. He frequently incorporated his expertise as a former Royal Navy officer, gained through his own service, into his narratives, contributing to a sense of authenticity and realism. Pope also wrote extensively on naval history and warfare, creating numerous non-fiction books on topics such as the Battle of Trafalgar and the Graf Spee.
