Han Kang, born November 27, 1970, is a prominent South Korean novelist known for her intensely psychological and surreal narratives. Prior to achieving international acclaim, she taught creative writing at the Seoul Institute of the Arts from 2007 to 2018. Her writing style is characterized by sparse prose, exploring themes of trauma, alienation, and the complexities of human relationships with a haunting and often unsettling atmosphere. Han Kang gained significant recognition with The Vegetarian, which garnered the International Booker Prize in 2016, marking the first Korean language novel to receive this honor.
