James John Herbert (1943-2013) was a prolific English horror writer who transitioned from a career as an art director at an advertising agency to dedicating himself entirely to writing and publishing. Herbert is known for his distinctive style, which blends graphic detail with a focus on visceral horror and themes of corruption and the consequences of human actions. He designed his own book covers and handled much of his publicity independently, contributing to the enormous success of his work, with over 54 million copies sold worldwide across 34 languages.
