Jason Reynolds (born December 6, 1983) is an American author primarily known for his impactful novels and poetry for young adult and middle grade audiences. He was born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Oxon Hill, Maryland, drawing inspiration from rap music and developing a strong foundation in poetry before transitioning to prose. Reynolds’ writing is characterized by its raw honesty, energetic voice, and focus on the experiences of young Black men, often exploring themes of identity, family, and social justice. He gained widespread recognition with his debut novel, When I Was... in 2014, marking the beginning of a prolific career filled with award-winning works and a dedication to amplifying marginalized voices.
