Richard S. Prather (1921-2007) was a prolific American mystery novelist, primarily known for his long-running "Shell Scott" series. Born in Santa Ana, California, he attended Riverside Community College before serving in the military. Prather's writing style was characterized by fast-paced plots, witty dialogue, and a cynical, hard-boiled detective voice, reminiscent of classic noir. He often employed unconventional narratives and frequently used humor alongside the suspense and violence typical of the genre.
