Jesmyn Ward, born April 1, 1977, is an American novelist and professor of English at Tulane University, holding the prestigious Andrew W. Mellon Professorship in the Humanities. Her writing is deeply rooted in her Southern heritage, particularly the experiences of Black communities in Mississippi.
