Viet Thanh Nguyen, born March 13, 1971, is a South Vietnamese-born American novelist and professor. He currently holds the Aerol Arnold Chair of English and Professor of English and American Studies and Ethnicity at the University of Southern California. Nguyen's writing is characterized by a complex and layered narrative style, often exploring themes of identity, loyalty, and the lingering impact of war, particularly through the lens of the Vietnam War and its effects on Vietnamese-American communities. His work frequently incorporates multiple perspectives and utilizes satire and realism to create a deeply immersive reading experience.
