She was educated at Kenyon College and Boston University, earning degrees in English and a Master's in Creative Writing, respectively. Blum is known for her character-driven stories often exploring themes of family, identity, and historical events. Her writing style is characterized by rich detail, complex characters, and a thoughtful approach to storytelling. She has received numerous accolades for her work, including being selected by the Modern Scholar series to teach an audio lecture course on the art of writing fiction.
